The number of cases of influenza in the province continues to climb.
According to the Department of Health’s latest weekly report on influenza, as of the week ending February 15, they report a total of 214 confirmed cases of the flu so far this year. Of those, 76 are influenza A, and 138 are influenza B.
That’s up from 146 reported cases as of February 1. Up to that point, two deaths had been reported because of the disease, but that number has not risen since.
However, the number of hospitalizations has risen to 35, and the number of ICU admissions has increased to 5.

Although instances of the disease remain high nationally, the number of confirmed cases has been going down steadily ever since the sudden spike at the end of January.
We aren’t out of the woods yet, though. The five-year average indicates the highest amount of cases usually occur from late February to around mid-April.
