A 17-year-old is without his licence for a week after being stopped by police for excessive speeding overnight.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle that was travelling 52 km/h over the speed limit in Torbay, just after 2:30 a.m.

The 17-year-old driver didn’t stop for police, and after a short pursuit he was arrested.

He was charged with flight from police and dangerous driving, and was handed a speeding ticket.

His vehicle was impounded for three days and licence was suspended for seven. He will appear in court at a later date.
