Two people are officially in the running for Liberal leadership as of the close of nominations at noon.

Party president John Allan confirms that both John Abbott and Andrew Furey have been successfully green-lit by the Liberals, and declared as the official candidates.

NL residents 14-years and older can register as Liberal members or supporters, until April 4 at 5 p.m., to be eligible to vote in the Leadership election.

Voting takes place in May through a combination of online, telephone and in-person voting.

The next leader of the Liberal party and Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador will be announced on May 9.
