Local businesses are doing their part to help deal with the COVID-19 pandemic now gripping the province.
The St. John’s Board of Trade says despite the challenges faced by businesses and employees alike, some amazing things are happening.
Acting CEO Rhonda Tulk-Lane says they put a call out to all member businesses yesterday morning to collect masks, face shields, gloves and gowns for the healthcare system.
They responded in a big way, sourcing 6,000 masks from a local mining company.
Tulk-Lane says it doesn’t end there.
Labatt, which operates a brewery in the capital city’s west downtown, also stepped up and will be starting to manufacture hand sanitizer to help meet demand, while Kent is doing what it can to find supplies.
Other business associations are also rallying members to collect protective equipment for front-line health care workers.
