The priest who presided over a recent funeral linked to a cluster of COVID-19 positive cases is in self-isolation.
Someone who later tested positive for the illness attended the funeral. Since then, a cluster of presumptive positive COVID-19 cases have been discovered through intensive contact tracing conducted by public health officials.
Father Paul Lundrigan says he feels fine, but has been in self-isolation since Sunday when someone from Caul’s phoned to let him know what was happening.
Father Lundrigan says it’s his understanding that staff at Caul’s are being tested today and he expects he may get a call from public health officials to be tested as well. He has long been practicing social distancing and frequent handwashing, but admits it can sometimes be challenging to keep that personal distance.
He says in a funeral it can be hard to avoid all physical contact, and that it’s possible he may have brushed up against someone in the rush. That’s why he felt it was important to self-isolate.
Father Lundrigan had been limiting public contact prior to that, conducting masses via Facebook live. The five people who were in physical attendance were spread around the church by a large distance.
