The federal government is tracking the COVID-19 outbreak across Canada and is compiling numbers from each of the provinces.
Newfoundland and Labrador reported 67 presumptive or confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday, which is on par with Nova Scotia.
However, Newfoundland and Labrador has a population of about 521,000, while Nova Scotia’s population is almost double at over 971,000.
Quebec’s population is over 8-million, while the number of confirmed cases there is 1339. In Ontario, where the population is over 14-million, the number of confirmed cases is 688.
British Columbia has the largest number of deaths linked to the illness at 14, followed by Ontario at 13 and Quebec at six. Alberta has reported two COVID-19-related deaths.
As of yesterday, 44 of the cases in the Eastern Health region were linked to a recent funeral in St. John’s. Public Health officials in Newfoundland and Labrador have been involved in intensive contact tracing which is linked to the numbers in this province.
