The province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health is bringing in new restrictions in light of the latest update on COVID-19 in the province. There are 13 new cases, all within the Eastern Health region.
Newfoundland and Labrador has recorded its first death from the illness, a 78 year old man with underlying health issues, who was admitted to hospital from home. He is one of the 111 cases linked to exposure to the illness at Caul’s Funeral home.

Nine people have been admitted to hospital with the virus, two are in intensive care. Of those in hospital, seven are in the Eastern Health region, one in the Central Health region and one in Labrador-Grenfell Health region.
Right now seven people are considered recovered.
Premier Dwight Ball offered his condolences. He has been in contact with the family who have indicated that the health care system did all they could for their loved one, and that they are asking for privacy at this time.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald today announced that all funerals, wakes and visitations are prohibited until further notice. Burials and weddings are limited to five people including the officiant.

Also, the sale of all Lotto, break-open and scratch tickets are now prohibited in retail stores. For those in self-isolation, you must not leave your property, or unit, and you must not drive in a vehicle unless it’s to receive medical attention.
Thirteen new positive cases have been confirmed since yesterday, bringing the total number of cases in Newfoundland and Labrador to 148.
139 of those cases are in the Eastern Health region, three are in Central Health, one in the Western Health region and five are in Labrador-Grenfell Health.
