St. John’s City Council has voted against making the traffic circle at Rawlins Cross permanent.
The project, which has been ongoing since 2018, would have cost 1 million dollars to install.
Although research stated vehicle speed was significantly reduced and fewer injuries were reported, input from the public stated the area felt less safe for pedestrians overall.
Traffic lights will be returning to Rawlins Cross, although some amendments will be made to the original configuration.
The motion to approve the traffic circle lost 7 – 4.
