Health Minister Dr. John Haggie says while the latest numbers may lend some optimism to the COVID-19 situation in the province, it remains absolutely important—with community spread confirmed in the province—that people not let their guard down.
“There is no time for complacency, we are not out of the woods yet,” said Haggie during today’s provincial update.
Newfoundland and Labrador is lagging about two weeks behind mainland Canada. He asks those who want to know the potential of what could happen, “look no further than Quebec and Ontario.”
Ontario today confirmed 260 new cases of COVID-19, bringing that province’s total to 1,966. Meanwhile, in Quebec more than 3,000 cases have tested positive.
He calls Dr. Fitzgerald’s public health advisories some of the most restrictive changes to everyday life in this province since wartime in Europe.
