The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary have assembled a COVID-19 Enforcement Unit.
The unit will be dedicated to compliance of the special measures put in effect in Newfoundland and Labrador under the Public Health Protection and Promotion Act.
The team will consist of investigators, an analyst, and a supervisor. The investigations could involve gathering video, interviewing witnesses and compliance check visits.
The police are still asking people who suspect non-compliance to go through the government’s online reporting site and fill out the form.
The RNC will intervene if someone chooses to put the public at risk.
So far one person—a 53-year-old woman from Corner Brook—is the only person to have been charged for not self-isolating. She was picked up by police twice in three days.
