The province’s health minister is easing the concerns of parents who are getting their newborns vaccinated for the first time.
Some parents have raised concerns about getting their children vaccinated under the current circumstances.
John Haggie says public health nurses are skilled in both vaccinations and the tasks required for COVID-19.
He reassures people that nurses use appropriate PPE and that no one is trying to, or will do, anything that would put you or your baby at risk.
The Health Minister recommends parents continue with vaccinations under these circumstances.
Haggie says the province has the best child vaccination rates in the country, which is something to be proud of. He says hopefully at some stage in the future, they will have a vaccine for COVID-19 too.
All Vaccine Programs Should Continue, says Haggie
Meanwhile, Minister Haggie says the vaccine program for children and youth should go ahead.
Haggie says it’s an important public health measures of its own.
He says for those who still receive their vaccines at school, discussions will take place with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development to see who would need them.
From a point of view of the provincial vaccine program, Haggie says they would like to ensure it continues.
