Concern for residents in seniors’ homes remains high as they make up more than half of all COVID-19 deaths in Canada.
In light of that frightening statistic some families are removing their elderly family members from long term care facilities and bringing them home to stay with them.
Dave Walsh says with him and his wife now home all day, they decided to take his mom Rita out of St. Patrick’s Mercy home.
He says given the amount of people in the nursing home between staff and residents, they felt that taking her out was the best chance for reducing the chance of exposure to virus should it come into the home.
Walsh says the staff were very careful in following safety protocols when releasing his mom and didn’t allow them enter the care home to get her.
