The provincial government has made an amendment to the Shops’ Closing Act to allow certain stores to open on Good Friday to give customers more time to get what they need ahead of Easter Sunday.
Stores that are normally closed on Good Friday are not mandated to open, and can choose to open if they want.
Included are retail stores that provide services essential to the life, health or personal safety of persons or animals including grocery stores and big box stores that sell dry goods, produce and other food items.
The purpose of allowing select stores to open this Good Friday according to government is to prevent large congregations of shoppers ahead of the Easter holiday.
