Two Trinity-Conception area men have been arrested for the alleged importation of illegal weapons following two recent investigations involving police the Canada Border Services Agency and Canada Post.
RCMP were alerted by the CBSA which intercepted a package containing a firearm silencer—or suppressor—bound for a Coley’s Point address.
Two firearms were subsequently located by RCMP who conducted a search of the home in question.
A 41-year-old man is facing multiple weapons and firearms charges as a result of the investigation, including knowingly importing an unauthorized weapon, and two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm.
The accused was released on a number of conditions to appear in court at a later date.
Meanwhile, a package containing a taser—en route to Whitbourne—was also intercepted by the CBSA. A 27-year-old man, who is prohibited from being in possession of any weapons, was arrested May 15 and a number of charges are pending against him.
Charges were also laid against the 18-year-old driver of a vehicle pulled over by police during the arrest. Several bags of marijuana and marijuana edibles, valued at $9,000 were seized by police. The teen is now facing charges related to the possession of illegal amounts of marijuana.
