While there were some delays on the detour through Holyrood last night, it was a far cry from the major gridlock experienced on Thursday evening.
Traffic from the Trans-Canada is being detoured through the town due to culvert work near Salmonier Line. While the average wait was expected to be in the range of 30 minutes, that stretched into three or four hours for some, with effects being felt as far away as Seal Cove.

But on Friday night, the delays were back to normal.
Holyrood Mayor Gary Goobie says a company has been brought in to manage flag and traffic control through the area, and the Department of Transportation and Works adjusted its tractor-trailer routes to alleviate the strain on the town’s roundabout.
He says they’re confident that it will help ease traffic over the coming days.
Drivers are advised that travel should be kept to essential purposes only, and that work is expected to continue.
The Trans-Canada Highway is expected to reopen by June 2.
