Warming weather and COVID-related boredom have led to increased traffic at Topsail Beach, prompting one CBS town councilor to urge people to “show some respect.”
Darrin Bent says residents of the area are used to increased traffic in the summer months, but the pandemic has extended that period.
Bent says the traffic in the area on the weekend was very high.
He visited yesterday afternoon around 4:15 and met 18 vehicles coming out of the area. When he got to the beach there were over 100 vehicles parked there.
Bent says the vast majority of those visiting Topsail Beach behave respectfully, but a few are making life difficult for local residents.
Some are screeching tires, revving engines, and speeding on a narrow road creating real safety concerns.
