For people who depend on the St. John’s Community Centre Alliance, the pandemic has been tough.
A group of performers want to combat food insecurity in the province by putting off a virtual fundraising show called “Food Now” tonight at 8 p.m.
Ambassador and comedian Mary Walsh says their goal is to raise $100,000 to provide 1,000 hot meals weekly for those who need it.
She says 100 per cent of the proceeds will go to the Community Centre Alliance, which is a non-profit organization.
Walsh explains that there are people who do not have access to food.
She says the fundraiser could help someone who normally receives a meal at school, someone who is underemployed, a person who is food insecure, older people or differently able people.
Walsh says that people working at the centres know who the people are and they want to help them.
