The Serious Incident Response Team investigation into a leaked video involving the fatal collision on Topsail Road on May 11 has concluded with the determination that no charges are warranted.
Mike King director of SIRT-NL says the report revealed no criminal conduct was involved.
Dashcam video of a black Kia Soul speeding on Topsail Road just prior to a devastating crash was immediately handed over to police. Somehow, a recording of that video ended up circulating on social media.
The crash killed the driver of the Kia, and Chad Pitcher, a motorcycle driver who was sitting on his machine in traffic.
SIRT-NL says while the sharing of police evidence with the public is a very serious matter and may sometimes be criminal, this particular incident does not reach the level of criminal conduct under the law and does not warrant criminal charges.
The matter has been referred to the RNC Public Complaints Commission for further review.
