The Department of Health is actively working to ensure there is no gap in medivac coverage following the shut down of Universal Helicopters.
The company announced this week that it was closing due to financial issues compounded by the downturn in the economy as a result of COVID-19.
It was the main helicopter service of choice for the province’s air ambulance service.
Universal’s contract with the provincial government was extended beyond the March 31 expiry.
The Department of Transportation and Works says Canadian Helicopters and Newfoundland Helicopters have agreed to fill the gap in service left by Universal.
