It’s a record-breaking day for temperatures in St. John’s.
A temperature of 27.6°C through 3:30 p.m. established a new record, according to Environment Canada meteorologist Rodney Barney. It establishes a new height for the warmest temperature recorded in the month of May in the capital city.

The old record was set on May 22, 2012, at 26.4° C. The warm weather will continue into the weekend, as Saturday brings a forecasted high of 23°C.
Central Tops Chart, but Doesn’t Quite Break Record
Meanwhile, Gander inched close to shattering its own record, as it clocked a high of 28.9°C, less than a degree away from the record of 30.7°C set on May 22, 2012.

Temperatures lingered in the high teens or low 20s for many parts of the province, as chilly springtime weather gave way to a hint of summery temperatures.
Central is in for another warm day on Saturday, with a high of 27°C in the forecast.
