Two local law firms have launched a class action on behalf of those unable to visit their Newfoundland properties because of the travel ban imposed by government.
The representative plaintiffs are Sharon and Werner Koehler of Elmira, Ontario who own a property in Bay Roberts and operate Sea Cliff Productions. They have been living in Bay Roberts on a seasonal basis for the last ten years and according to Budden & Associates and Bob Buckingham Law, they are willing to abide by public health restrictions, including requirements to self-isolate.

The class action pleads that barring non-resident property owners from entering the province is contrary to constitutional and Canadian Charter protections, in particular, mobility rights for travel within Canada.
Geoff Budden says the damages and losses experienced by their clients and “many thousands of others who own property in the province” is “extensive and ongoing.”
The class action is in addition to a similar court challenge set to be heard in September.
