The Nature Conservancy of Canada has expanded on the property it holds in the Grand Codroy Estuary region with the recent purchase of 19 hectares of land for preservation.
NL program director with the Nature Conservancy, Megan Lafferty, says the land is just upstream from the estuary and is a known draw for birdwatchers.

Lafferty says the area is habitat for over 200 bird species, and is now protected forever.
The Nature Conservancy holds 262 hectares of land in the Codroy Valley alone. Overall in Newfoundland and Labrador, the NCC has protected 5,600 hectares in the province for the preservation and enjoyment of nature.
