The City of St. John’s is trying to plan for the future of Mile One as the COVID-19 situation continues, but there are still a lot of unknown variables.
According to Jamie Korab, council’s representative of St. John’s Sports and Entertainment, the city is projecting a $1.77-million increase to the operational budget at Mile One, bringing the total cost to $5.7-million.
Korab admits the pandemic has had an adverse impact on the city, Mile One, and Convention Centre.
He says to offset some of the impacts the city is deferring some of its capital projects.
As well, they are hoping concerts and conventions that were canceled this year will be rescheduled for next year, and that there will be a “pent up demand” for events to come to the east coast.
However, Korab admits the outlook is uncertain, so they just have to keep preparing for the future as best they can.
