Local folklorist Dale Jarvis has built a reputation for collecting interesting stories from the province’s past.
Now he’s compiled a book of some of the odd, interesting and downright funny bits of Newfoundland and Labrador history
On This Day, 365 Tales of History, Mystery and More by Flanker Press is set to launch in e-book form on Wednesday, with the print book to be officially launched in early August.

Blown Over the Parapet, St. John’s 1838 is one of the stories Jarvis discovered; about two Royal Artillerymen who ran into trouble early on the morning of August 3rd.
Friends John Rolledge, 25 and 27-year-old Joseph Hammond were preparing a gun at the crescent battery on Signal Hill when a catridge they were ramming home suddenly exploded, knocking them over the parapet.
They were buried together at the Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist three days later.
The official book launch is happening on Wednesday, June 10th at 8:00 p.m. on Facebook.
