Liberal leadership candidate John Abbott wasted no time getting his campaign off the ground this morning as the race for the province’s next Premier resumes.
John Abbott made his stance on Muskrat Falls crystal clear announcing that he will shut down Nalcor and refuse to start up the mega project until Ottawa guarantees ratepayers will pay no more than 13.5 cents per kilowatt-hour.
Abbott says Nalcor has written one of the darkest chapters in the province’s history. He plans to shut it down and put it back in Hydro, where he says it belongs.

The Liberal leadership hopeful committed to forming an all-party committee on the economy and creating an Economic Task Force with leaders from across the province.
The oil and gas sector was another priority for Abbott. He says whether people like it or not the province will be using oil for another 20 years, and revenue and jobs from the sector will be needed to transition to a greener economy.
However, if Ottawa fails the industry, he says the economic devastation will be such that we may never get the chance to transition.
The current structure of government is not equipped to deal with the fallout of the economy due to COVID-19, says Abbott.
