The George Street Association says guidelines associated with the opening of bars and clubs in Alert Level 2, tomorrow, will result in “devastating outcomes” for businesses already struggling in light of the pandemic.
Under the next alert level, bars and lounges can reopen, but at half the usual occupancy. Dance floors and karaoke areas must remain closed, and physical distancing must be maintained.
The Association says members have taken the downtime to undertake renovations, but the guidelines set will continue to restrict the way businesses will operate from a physical distancing perspective.
They contend that with no active cases in the province, delaying the removal of restrictions will have “adverse economic effects” on staff and musicians who need the summer season to be successful.
