The province’s health minister says enforcement of public health guidelines surrounding social distancing and capacity issues in restaurants and bars is outside his jurisdiction.
John Haggie was responding to reports and images of people gathering in dense groups on George Street over the weekend.
Local musician and producer Zack Werner says it has to be up to government – not bar owners and managers – to enforce the regulations.
Haggie says jurisdiction over enforcement lies with a variety of agencies. That includes Service NL, the NLC, and RNC or RCMP.
