All is not lost for an organization that provides food for struggling families on the Northeast Avalon.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic began, Bridges to Hope has been handing out food hampers and $25 Dominion gift cards for the purchase of perishable food items.
Bridges to Hope manager Jody Williams says their clients appreciated the opportunity to pick up their own fresh fruit, produce and meats.
But he says they were left scrambling this week after thousands of dollars in gift cards couldn’t be used at Dominion stores due to the current labour dispute.
Williams says the organization purchased replacement gift cards from Coleman’s, and is awaiting word on the transfer of Dominion’s perishable food items to local food banks.
In the meantime, the No Frills stores in Paradise, Marystown and Clarenville, as well as Atlantic Wholesale Club have offered to help Bridges to Hope replenish its supply of food and gift cards.
