The provincial government says it is making headway getting traffic tickets, created by speed cameras, out to people after the postal disruptions clogged the system.
Two departments – Government Services and Justice and Public Safety – are working to alleviate the backlog.
Government says, while numbers fluctuate daily, more than 1,600 tickets have been mailed as of a week ago with roughly 8,500 remaining. More than $100,000 in fines has been collected.
Speed cameras can be contested in Provincial Court the same way as tickets issued by a police officer.
The legislation allows the province up to one year from the date of the offence to issue the corresponding ticket.
