Self-isolation imposed earlier this year helped to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and the flu among people, but it also prevented the spread of deadly illnesses among pets.
Dr. Maggie Brown-Bury is a veterinarian who specializes in emergency care.
She says while there have been a few cases of canine parvovirus reported in the St. John’s area this year, its spread was limited.
Because dog parks were closed, and people kept to themselves, Brown-Bury says it prevented things like parvo from spreading. She calls that one of the little-known upsides of COVID-19.
