In these uncertain times, a little stability can go a long way, and that’s exactly what one local business owner is trying to give his employees.
According to co-owner Todd Perrin, business at Mallard Cottage is down 90 per cent and revenue is down a whopping seven figures since March. He says many businesses will have a hard time surviving the next few months, but Perrin says they are doing everything they can and he’ll “die trying.”
Despite this, the company recently made a move to make employees full time and also ended the tipping process by instituting a built-in gratuity.
Perrin says it “levels out” an employee’s income and helps them know what to expect from week to week.
He says it’s the “right thing to do.” It is his job to figure out the economics of it, and if the economics don’t work out it is still the right thing to do and a bigger problem than what he’s doing.
