The City of St. John’s is spending $5.5-million on improvements to Robin Hood Bay.
Weir’s Construction has been awarded a contract to install a covering over the inactive area of the dump—about two-thirds of the landfill.
It will help with gases and odour but it doesn’t include the active portion of the landfill. Odour from there is more prominent sometimes than others.
Public works lead councillor Ian Froude says they will also install a chain-link fence around the property to reduce the amount of litter blowing around.
He says the project would add near a kilometre of chain link fence about 1.8 metres high.
