A local fisheries advocate wants to know why OCI is not giving consideration to South Dildo for a new, and controversial marine base proposed for Long Pond, CBS.
The proposal involves in-fill that will create approximately 17 hectares of new land in the harbour.
Area residents are speaking out, calling for greater consultation and a full environmental assessment.
Ryan Cleary says he wants to know why the company is not considering South Dildo for the project. He says the area has existing infrastructure and a deep harbour.
He says DFO Small Craft Harbours has spent about $7-million since 2015 on the wharf in South Dildo with an old plant and freezing capacity at the site.
If OCI builds the Long Pond facility, it will make a $7-million “white elephant” out of the South Dildo facility says Cleary.
