Premier Andrew Furey says he created the new Rate Mitigation Team to address problems he saw in the early stages of his review of the rate mitigation plan.
On Friday it was announced that Brendan Paddick will lead the team. The terms of reference for the teams was also released, which provides a mandate to wrap up negotiations with the federal government so the province can focus on other economic and environmental goals.
Andrew Furey says he saw what he calls a malalignment in how to tackle the problem.
He says he saw “friction” between Nalcor and Government.
He says both sides “weren’t always aligned on how to put the best foot forward” which would result in “a critical loss of time” in getting a plan for ratepayers.
