The NLTA has filed a grievance with the Labour Relations Board on the issue of sick leave.
The NLTA says government does not have the authority to direct teachers to use their sick leave if they are exhibiting symptoms that might interfere with their ability to perform their duties.
The union says it recognizes the importance of teachers following Public Health guidelines and remaining at home if they experience COVID-like symptoms.
The Teachers’ Association argues that under those circumstances, if a teacher is otherwise well enough to perform their duties, they should not have to take leave from their accrued sick leave.
