A polar bear that was a bit too curious caused some minor damage to a Search and Rescue helicopter that landed in Northern Labrador last month due to bad weather.
In mid-September, the Royal Canadian Air Force says a Cormorant helicopter on a training exercise landed at the Saglek airfield after they were forced to alter plans due to poor weather conditions. The airfield rests south of Torngat Mountains National Park.
While the Cormorant helicopter was able to land safely, it sustained some damage overnight when an unusual visitor stopped by to investigate.
Crew members returned the following morning to find large muddy footprints pressed upon the sides of the helicopter.

An emergency exit window was popped out of place, and a small cover panel on the nose of the chopper was removed.
To some relief, the polar bear failed to get entry and there were no crew members nearby. The following day, repairs were made and the search and rescue exercise was able to continue.
