Robert Keenan has been elected as the new Secretary-Treasurer for the FFAW.
Keenan, who ran unopposed, takes over the position from David Decker, who served in the position since 2003 and recently retired. He was sworn into the position at a Joint Council Meeting at the Holiday Inn in St. John’s.

Keenan has been with the union for the past six years, serving as one of the lead negotiators.
He says one of the biggest issues he faces now heading into the position is corporate concentration in the fishery—specifically relating to the Royal Greenland purchase of Quinlan Brothers.
He says that is a “huge” issue for the FFAW, one which cannot be glossed over. Keenan says that’s at the top of his list, and that if the agreement isn’t halted, they must mitigate its damages.
