Premier Andrew Furey says he’ll do whatever is required to keep his medical credentials intact while he’s premier, while also ensuring he doesn’t put himself in a conflict of interest.
Opposition Leader Ches Crosbie says that could prove difficult for Furey, a surgeon by trade, suggesting it could also take away from his role as a full-time premier.
Furey dismissed the suggestion, saying he’ll be careful not to create a conflict with any of the province’s health authorities. He says he’s working with the commissioner of legislative standards as well as the College of Physicians and Surgeons to ensure compliance with regulations and conflict guidelines.
Furey said he’ll ensure any surgeon duties required to keep his licence valid will be performed during vacation time.
