The Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra is joining with local folklorist Dale Jarvis to present an online Hallowe’en Spooktacular this evening.
Jarvis says the event is designed with all ages in mind; the event will bring you on a journey through some fun and spooky (kid-friendly) tales with a Newfoundland and Labrador twist.
He says the Anglican Cathedral allowed them access to film some of the event in the church, which has its own ghostly tale surrounding an old photograph on display in the Cathedral museum.
The picture shows a group of workmen who helped rebuild the Cathedral after the Great Fire of 1892, and it includes a man who had died while the work was underway. His ghostly image can be seen next to his former co-workers.
The Anglican Cathedral is also known for an old headstone. On display in the museum, it incorporates all of the spooky elements seldom seen in monuments today. He calls it one of his favourite old headstones. The marker belonging to Mary Stowe includes a grinning skull, seldom seen in local cemeteries.
