It is up to those travelling to the province to stay up-to-date on travel advisories that could affect them outside of Newfoundland and Labrador.
That from Chief Medical Officer Dr. Janice Fitzgerald.
She was responding to questions regarding a situation where a person travelling to this province who sat near a COVID patient on a connecting flight that did not arrive here.
Another jurisdiction put out the advisory but the traveller was not contacted.
Fitzgerald explains that in those cases, the jurisdiction in question notifies the public health agency of Canada who then posts that information to their website.
The recommendation is that travellers check that site for notifications about flights they have been on. She says if there are any “significant risks,” then that jurisdiction will notify other applicable areas.
Health Minister Dr. John Haggie says Newfoundland and Labrador doesn’t have access to much information involving other provinces, save for the “safety net” of the Public Health Agency of Canada making contact with potential cases.
