A former St. John’s city councillor and NL Sports Hall of Fame inductee has passed away.
Dave Barrett passed away on Wednesday at the age of 82 following a battle with cancer.
Barrett was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in 2004 in the athlete category for excellence in a number of sports including track and field, soccer, hockey and basketball.
He was also named to the NL Basketball Hall of Fame.
Barrett served on St. John’s city council in the 1980s and is being remembered as one of the “nice guys.” He also served for many years on the defunct St. John’s Metro Area Board.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 9:30 from St. Pius X, with interment at the Anglican Cemetery on Forest Road.
