The town of Clarenville is taking action and seeking the public’s help as the result of vandalism targeting the Elizabeth Swan Park and Rotary trail.
The town made a plea on Facebook for parents to talk to their children about inappropriate behaviour after video surveillance picked up a group of young people causing trouble in the park.
This past week, video surveillance capture four young people vandalizing storyboards in the cookhouse. The culprits have been identified and will be “dealt with accordingly by authorities.”
Picnic tables had to be removed by town staff because of the behaviour, and there was evidence of bikes being used on the splash pad. It also appears as though someone took an axe to benches along the trail.
Most worrisome, says the town, was burnt matches found in the area of the wooden stage of the Bill Davis Chalet, as well as evidence of burned paper.
Anyone with information on suspicious or inappropriate activity in and around town facilities is asked to contact the Clarenville Town Office at (709) 473-7937. The town asks anyone with information to not name any individuals in their social media feed.
