The capital city is expecting nearly ten thousand more cruise ship passengers to visit the region this year compared to last.
A total of 39 cruise ships are scheduled to visit the capital this season starting this Thursday, with a couple of vessels expected.
Some days will see more than one such boat visit the harbour.
City Councillor Jill Bruce says local business welcomes the extra visitors.
“I’ve talked with some of the people who are in that industry, and as it stands right now, with the numbers we have, even though we’re up on passengers, they have no issue with what we have coming in so far. The largest ships are about 2,500 passengers.”
“There are a couple of days this year, I think five days, where we’ve got multi-ships, but they’re great at coordinating these events. This has been going on for a nice few years now, so they know how, and we get advance notice so they can plan their days.”
