The provincial government is in the process of setting up a roundtable called the “gender table,” and one of the topics will be violence against women.
Last week the province kicked off 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.
The minister responsible for the status of women, Lisa Dempster points to pieces of legislation such as Clare’s Law and changes to the definition of harm as progress made, but notes that we are “definitely not” there yet when it comes to addressing domestic violence.

Dempster notes it is important to connect with people who have experienced gender-based violence and indicates those voices will be included at the roundtable.
She says an important piece to the project is bringing together some of the progress already made.
Dempster says people are calling for action now, with which she doesn’t disagree. She says they’re going to bring together what they’ve already done, present it to the roundtable and identify priorities moving forward.
