At least one recent case of COVID-19 was confirmed as the result of the COVID Alert app.
It comes months after Newfoundlanders and Labradorians were urged to install the anonymous app.
If a person who uses the app tests positive for COVID-19, they’re offered a code which will issue a notification to close contacts who also use the app.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says three to four people were recently encouraged to enter the code, and one close contact tested positive as a result. Which happened over the weekend.
Premier Andrew Furey is encouraging more people to download the secure, anonymous app, which becomes more effective with greater numbers using it.
