The tourism industry is seeking a “back to normal” plan once the COVID-19 vaccine is widely available, but the province is still working out what a resumption in travel to the province will look like.
Premier Andrew Furey says the federal government is still struggling with the concept of so-called COVID passports, and what will be required of travellers in order to lift travel restrictions.
He says questions remain about how it will be executed, what platforms will be needed, bringing all provinces on board, and how it would be tracked. Furey knows people are “starved” for answers, but it will all take time.
Meanwhile, Hospitality NL was encouraged to see their industry and the airlines mentioned in the federal fiscal update yesterday.
Chair Brenda O’Reilly says they’re looking forward to seeing details of the programs earmarked for tourism operators.
