The Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Carbonear is hosting a day-long Drive-Thru Food Drive this Friday to help fill their larder in time for the holidays.
The Foodbank serves a radius of over 350 km in the Trinity-Conception area.
It says in a typical month they serve nearly 600 households with a monthly food hamper. This year they’ve seen a big increase in the use of their foodbank and they expect the number of Christmas hampers needed this year will far exceed 2019 numbers.
Spokesperson Kaitlin Clarke says the greatest need is for staples including juice, canned milk, tea bags, sugar, butter, and pasta, but they also have a demand for toiletries.
That includes toilet paper, something everyone needs, but few people donate. They also have a need for things like deodorant, shampoo, and toothpaste.
The food drive will take place on Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the Home Hardware parking lot in Carbonear.
