The province’s Privacy Commissioner says the use of body cameras by municipal enforcement officers in Happy Valley-Goose Bay remains a concern for his office.
Michael Harvey told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly he first became aware of the town’s body camera program through the media.
Until recently, two body cams were in use in the town. That is until one municipal officer was placed on administrative leave as the result of an investigation into an incident caught on video, involving the arrest of an Inuk man in October.
Harvey says he’s had communication with the town, and its policy has been reviewed by his office.
He says even though the town had agreed to change its policy, it remains in place.
