A vigil outside St. John’s city hall marked the International Day for Persons with Disabilities.
Those in attendance brought flashlights with them to help “shine a light” on some of the issues the disability community face on a regular basis.
Ann Malone is a long-time advocate for disability rights and has been vocal on issues like sidewalk snow clearing in the capital city.
She says everyone has a right to get around safely. Malone says a ramp, for instance, is so much more than a ramp for those who need it.
She says it provides opportunity, education, social relationships, and political engagement.
