An Opposition MHA is looking for answers on whether health authorities are double billing.
Tony Wakeham, the finance critic, first raised the matter in the House of Assembly but has yet to get a response.
He says a senior citizen looking to renew his driver’s licence first had to get a medical. The physician charged him $60—nothing untoward there. However, he then got another bill—this one for $97—from the regional health authority for the assessment.
Wakeham can’t see the reasoning for charging twice for the same service.
He says he has a Class 4 licence which requires a medical exam every few years, and for which he pays $90. But that’s the only bill he gets.
